Two Men Arrested in Buenos Aires for Vehicle Thefts

Two men were apprehended in the town of 9 de Abril, in the Esteban Echeverria district, Buenos Aires Province, accused of belonging to a criminal organization involved in violent vehicle theft and home invasions. During the operation, officers raided a private residence where the suspects were located. The officers noticed one man pointing a firearm at them, which they repelled, resulting in the suspect being wounded and neutralized. Following the confrontation, police entered the property. An ambulance was called, and paramedics transported the injured man to a local hospital. Police on the scene identified numerous individuals. The intervening magistrate ordered the on-duty UFI (Unidad Fiscal de Instrucción) to take the case and directed the presence of the National Gendarmerie to conduct the necessary forensic investigations, securing the area until experts arrived. Two men were arrested for their alleged involvement in a criminal network dedicated to vehicle theft and home invasions. According to the police report, the detainees are Nicolás Eduardo Llanelli and Jonathan Alejandro Rodríguez. They are being investigated in a case for illicit association, aggravated robbery, and concealment. The investigation began on May 8, 2025, when officers from the Esteban Echeverria Patrol Command had an armed confrontation with criminals who had stolen a Toyota Yaris. During that operation, one of the suspects, Brian Leiva, was apprehended. A seized cellphone was forensically analyzed, leading to the discovery of a criminal organization involved in aggravated vehicle theft, with the cars later being altered for sale or used in home invasions. The alleged leader of the gang operated from a prison unit, while the structure had specific roles, including individuals for violent vehicle theft, weapons and document suppliers, vehicle alteration specialists, drivers, and those responsible for managing the illicit proceeds. The investigation linked the organization to at least 15 criminal incidents, resulting in 33 search warrants and 15 arrest orders.
